We’re approaching the year anniversary of the 2019 Red Rock HMA gather.
There’s been very little rainfall this year. With the relocation of the 237 horses, there are still dormant grasses (Red Brome and Cheat) left from last years heavy growth that have kept the remaining fifty three horses healthy.
The summer of 2020 has the horses with good weight and better than normal condition. They are only walking a few miles from water versus eight to ten, one way.
Another example is Hope, the sorrel, yearling filly. Her dam died when she was three months old last November. Though she may be smaller than the other two yearlings, Crema and Tracker, there was enough grass through last winter to sustain her.
Winter is still pregnant.
