We driven about two miles from the two bands that had merged into one, when we came across another band. It took a few minutes to realize who we were looking at. This is a new band. It appears Kaku’s band has split into two. When last observed in August 2018 the band had one stallion, four mares (various ages) with two of their 2018 foals. A 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 colts, from three of mares.
Today, we’re looking at the 2014 and 2015 colts, with the 2014 mare and her 2017 and 2018 colts.
This is the third time I’ve observed a large band divide itself with colts that stayed in their birth band past two years of age.
