01-13-18: Afternoon. Spring Mountains
There’s a rock formation along the edge of a small gully we’ve driven past for years. Today was the day we stopped to explore the formation.
(*This area is slow in fire recovery. Prevailing winds had the 2005 fire come down, then back over this side of the mountain.)
As we walk our way up the low gully, we see a shallow cave in the rock formation with a roasting pit about 25 feet away.
While there were signs of recent lumber burning, carbon lined the top and back of the shelter. The dirt outside the shelter was a much darker brown than the soil in the area.
